Rob – One of my favourite Portraits.

Most of the portraits on my website are portraits photographed in Essex, my home county. These reflect  a nice balance between studio portraits, location portraits and commercial portraits, all of which I enjoy equally.

However as a portrait photographer it’s always nice to look and work further afield than my home or surrounding counties. Which is one of the reasons  shooting this portrait was particularly special. Why? Because it was photographed in New Zealand!

I say one of the reasons because there was also one other very special reason I enjoyed this shoot so much and that’s because Rob is my eldest son and I hadn’t seen him in over fourteen months. He has been away travelling since October 2014, touring most of Asia, Australia and New Zealand, he actually stayed in New Zealand for twelve month hence why we thought it would be good to go and visit him whilst he was there.

Rob is a very keen guitar player and also loves to sing,  whilst being away he has developed his passion even further and has actually started to perform in public at numerous open mike nights and at the venue where he works. It was natural therefore when photographing him to shoot a music portrait.

This is one of a series of shots taken in natural light on the balcony of our apartment in Whitianga on the Coromandel Peninsular.

I really like it, I hope you do too, please feel free to share it on social media or to leave a comment below and tell me what you think.

If you haven’t already done so please check out Location Portrait – why I love this photograph which is a portrait of my wife also photographed in New Zealand.
