Laura and Spencer’s wedding – a delightful winter wedding in The Reid Rooms, at Margaret Roding, near Chelmsford, on the Essex/Hertfordshire border, a wonderful venue for weddings and of course wedding photography. Christmas trees, roaring fires, decorations, twinkling lights, candles; it was all there to set the scene for such a wonderful day.
I first met Laura and Spencer some months beforehand at their home in Earls Colne where they booked me to photograph their wedding, so it was great to see them again on the big day itself.
When I first arrived at The Reid Rooms it was wet and cold and raining so I was pleased to find Spencer in the lounge together with his best man Xav. They were both looking extremely dapper in their very smart wedding suits and so we set about capturing some wonderful portraits. We used the natural window light and the relaxed setting of the lounge before venturing outside and photographing them in a more rugged style, (or laddish sort of way).
Laura was getting ready in the nearby Marks Hall Farmhouse, together with her bridesmaids and page boy, Melissa, Amelia, Alex and, Lee as well as some friends and family. This was also beautifully decorated for the festive season and was idyllic for capturing some natural portraits and bridal party shots.
Laura looked amazing and her wedding dress was just beautiful, it certainly turned heads when she walked into the ceremony.
Although it was very cold everyone was brave and we all stayed outside after the ceremony for the throwing of confetti to and to capture some traditional groups shots together with informal shots of everyone enjoying themselves.
My assistant (my son Nick) and I had been invited, by the bride and groom, to have a meal, which is often the case when we stay to photograph into the evening. But I have to say I was particularly looking forward to it on this occasion, Xav is a chef and Spencer is an ex chef and I know they they had spent some time organising the catering arrangements, Mmmm!! It was roast beef and it was delicious.
The speeches were very touching and provided some great photographic opportunities, they were also the most emotional speeches I have ever witnessed with both the bride and the best man becoming very emotional, Spencer however managed to remain calm and handled them both very well. Well done Spencer!
Lots more guests arrived in the evening and everyone seemed to be having great fun, there really was a party atmosphere, I think there was a great mix of the happiness of the occasion combined with the festive spirit.
I have met with Laura and Spencer since the wedding and have produced a wonderful coffee table book as a record of the occasion, they are absolutely delighted with it.
Laura and Spencer are a wonderful couple and I wish them a long and happy life together.
