Summer Wedding at The Reid Rooms, Margaret Roding.

A beautiful British summers day, and I really mean that, not like so many August days of late which can be a bit flat or overcast or in some cases belting down with rain, this one really was beautiful. August last year the sun was shining and the weather calm. A brilliant day for Shelly and Steve who were getting married at The Reid Rooms in Margaret Roding.

The Bride and her son – just before the ceremony

Shelly and Steve had both been married previously but that was taking away none of the excitement. Shelly in particular I think was experiencing excitement and nerves in equal measure, it was wonderful therefore that she had her son and daughter and close family and friends to share the experience with her.

It was nice to see her get a little emotional as well during the wedding ceremony, I too think it can be quite an emotional event to verbalise publicly the true feeling you have for someone, she was amazing.

The Bride & Groom.

Everyone looked amazing on the day, Steve and the guys looked very dapper in their fine suits and Shelly looked fabulous in her wedding dress. Sadly I was only booked until the start of the wedding breakfast so I missed out on the evening fun but I’m sure it would have been brilliant. Actually I must say as a demonstration of how very kind Shelly and Steve are they actually invited me (and my assistant) to stay for a meal even though we were not staying until the evening. Sadly on this occasion I had to decline, but I thought it was very very kind of them.

I wish them both a very long and happy life together.

Heather and Andy’s Wedding at St Mary’s Church Bocking.

A quick revisit to a wedding photographed at Heather and Andy’s wedding at St Mary’s Church in Bocking a few years back followed by a wedding reception at The White Hart in Braintree. This time I’m showing a video made from a selection of photographs from the day. Thet were such a lovely couple that I thought a re-post was warranted for those who mised it the first time around.

Tanya & Gareth’s Wedding at Baddow Park.

Nulli Secundus (Second to None)

They say absence makes the heart grow fonder and I think that is definitely the case with Tanya & Gareth. Gareth is a soldier serving with the Coldstream Guards, when they first came to see me to enquire about wedding photography they had to wait for a convenient time when Gareth was at home on leave before they could do so. I could see then that they were very loving and had a strong bond between them a bond that had been tested by a number of abscesses and one which would be tested again as Gareth was being posted out again before the wedding.

Wedding Photography Baddow Park_02 Follow Me on Pinterest

Wedding Photography at Baddow Park, bridal preparation

The wedding was held at Baddow Park and this was one of the first weddings I had photographed there. It is an amazing wedding venue a beautiful old house which still remains the home of the owner Annie. Annie and all of the staff are pretty wonderful people, they could not have been more obliging and helpful.

Tanya had arrived early and was upstairs getting ready with her bridesmaids, Emma, Lauren, Mollie and Hayley. She was really chilled and they were all enjoying their time helping each other in their preparations.

Meanwhile Gareth feeling a little nervous, was downstairs with his entourage, Sean, David, Connor and Daniel, with lots of friendly banter going on. That was the perfect time to get them all outside for some portraits and fun shots.

Gareth looked very splendid in his best dress uniform his red jacket very bold alongside Tanya’s gorgeous wedding dress. They really did make a very pretty picture, like something out of a period novel or a grand old painting.

In the weeks leading up to the wedding we had been having lots of heavy rainfall, so bad that the marquee had to be moved from its usual spot on the lawn to a position in front of the house. However on the day of the wedding itself it was absolutely glorious and the sun was shining down on everyone. I even managed to capture some wonderful photographs of the Tanya and Gareth against an amazing sunset.

I know Gareth’s regiment were moving out again very shortly after the wedding, quite where they went or where they are now I don’t know, but wherever it is I wish them both a long and happy life together.

If you are planning a wedding at Baddow Park or anywhere else for that matter then do get in touch to discuss your wedding photography.

Young Boy and his Grandad at Braxted Park.

This was another image taken whilst assisting photographer Andy Griffin photographing a wedding at Braxted Park last summer. Why have chosen it as my image of the week?  Well I don’t think that requires too much explanation, I think the image it speaks for itself in volumes.

What the relationship is between the little boy and the older man I don’t really know but I suspect that he is his grandad or else some other close family relative or friend. The boy certainly seems to show him a great deal of admiration and respect. He is very comfortable in his company and also fascinated in what he has to say. As I observed the boy was eager to keep the conversation going and listened intently as his ‘grandfather’ spoke.

I think it’s a great image, I hope you do too; please feel free to comment in the box below.

Portrait Photography with Chris & Ashleigh.

I was fortunate enough to first meet Chris and Ashleigh back in 2010 when I photographed their wedding at Gosfield Hall. I then met them again, a few years later, when I photographed Kiri and Andrews wedding at St Peter’s church in Braintree. Kiri is Ashleigh’s sister and had been a bridesmaid at her wedding. Thanks for the recommendation Ashleigh :-)

Actually talking of recommendations, both Ashleigh and Kiri had the same hairdresser to do their hair on their wedding day, a lovely lady called Vicky and guess what when she got married last year I photographed her wedding as well. Anyway back to what I was saying;

So it was extremely nice to see them a third time when I did this family portrait shoot in Gosfield last summer. They weren’t really sure whether to do a studio shoot or something more natural outdoors in the local area so, we did both.

We started off in my home studio doing a mix of family, small group and individual shots, (not everyone was always willing to play ball but we worked around that easily enough). We then headed over to Gosfield playing fields where they have a children’s play area that worked really well the children enjoyed it they settled a lot more and it took their mind off being photographed.

One of the most popular photographs in my portfolio and on my web site is one of Ashleigh and Chris’s son Ben, you can see it on my home page slide show. It was really surprising to see how much he had grown up and changed over those few years, not as cute now as he was then but still looking cool, just look at that hair.

It just goes to show though how quickly we change, especially children, so remember to capture their photos now on a regular basis so you have a record to keep forever. Better still why not once in a while have some professional photographs taken, that way you can have a high quality permanent record and they make a great gift for family and friends.

Wedding at St Gregory Church Sudbury.

I shot this image whilst assisting a fellow photographer, Joe Dormer, to photograph a wedding in Sudbury a couple of years ago. Joe went off to photograph the bride getting ready at home whilst I photographed the groom at the church, we later met up to photograph the rest of the wedding together. The ceremony at the church and then the reception at The White Hart Hotel in Great Yeldham.

The reason this image stands out for me is because the vicar seen here standing with the bride is also her father and he uniquely went on to perform the most part of the actual wedding ceremony. There is something very special I think about being in a position to marry your own daughter and also something very wonderful to have your own father carry out your wedding ceremony.

When I look at the expression on his face, to me it just radiates his pride and his joy. His pride and joy in that very moment as he sees his daughter in her wedding dress for the first time and also as he thinks of the moments ahead when he will conduct the marriage ceremony.

Although at a much lower level it also resonates with me that the church is called St Gregory’s and is in Gregory Street and the name of the bride’s father is Revd Canon Gregory J Webb.

It’s my intention to choose an image each week as my image of the week and to reflect upon it and tell you why I chose it. Please do come back and see more of my choices and please do feel free to share the image and leave your thoughts/ comments below.

Wedding at St James the Less Little Tey

I have so many wonderful memories of this wedding. First of all the bride and groom Rachael & Ben are such a lovely couple and brilliant to work with, I actually first  found this out when I did  a pre wedding photo shoot with them some months beforehand at Castle Park in Colchester, you can see the shoothere, that was the very first time I met them.

Rachael is the daughter of an ex work colleague of mine and so it was good to catch up with him at the wedding but also to see and feel the emotion he exuded as he walked his daughter down the aisle.

And what an isle that was! Another memory from that day was to see the inside of such a wonderful church, ‘St James the Less’ in Little Tey, with its beautifully restored medieval wall paintings, if you are interested in churches, old buildings or art then it’s definitely worth a visit.

Another ‘buzz’ on the day was the ‘celebratory’ status of one of the ushers. He either owned or part owned an old world war two tank over in Hertfordshire, which at the time was being used for filming some of the block buster film Fury and he personally had been instructing Brad Pitt on how to drive a tank. (Despite this insider knowledge I only actually watched the film a couple of weeks ago).

I have never photographed a wedding where quite so many of the guests had such fancy (high end) cameras, some of them I’m sure better (or at least more expensive) than mine. Fortunately this didn’t prove too distracting for Rachael & Ben who knew when to engage with me and when to give to others. I’m sure at times though onlookers must have thought it was a celebrity wedding with hordes of paparazzi style photographs lining the way.  (Rachael & Ben were celebrities of course – but you know what I mean).

The bride leaves the wedding car a beautiful old Citroen C5 Follow Me on Pinterest

This is an image from a wedding I photographed in the small French town of Chouzé sur Loire in the heart of the wine growing region of the Loire Valley.

It was a beautiful hot day and the ceremony was around two o’clock in the afternoon. There were around two hundred guests at the church and everyone looked amazing.

The bride arrived, chauffer driven, in this beautifully restored (or maybe it had just always been kept that good) Citroen C5, and at the moment this photograph was taken she had just got out of the vehicle and was waiting for the right moment to walk down the path and into the church.

I love the photo because it looks so typically French and so romantic, the car, the street, the signs the buildings and all bathed in beautiful afternoon sunshine.

The bride … is taking a moment to check herself and to catch her breath before taking that first step…

I will blog more about photographing this wedding in a latter post.

If you are planning a destination wedding or a UK wedding in 2016 or 2017 then do get in touch to discuss you wedding photography plans.

Katrina and Mark’s Halstead Wedding.

“To get the full value of joy you must have someone to divide it with.” – Mark Twain”

Mark and Katrina are such a likeable down to earth couple, straight talking and genuine. I joked with Katrina that she had the same name as a hurricane and although not destructive she certainly left her impact wherever she went, a trail of smiles and laughter!  I have not had too many brides who drink beer from a bottle at the wedding breakfast, but it’s her day and her way, that’s who she is and I loved her for it.

Mark too is from the same mould and seemed most relaxed with a fag and a beer in his hand. What a nice surprise it was when they very kindly invited my assistant, Rachael, and I to join them at the wedding breakfast,  we had places set out for us and had a great time chatting to Mark’s sister and her family – taking time out to capture some photographs of course.

Halstead Wedding

Living in nearby Gosfield it’s always a pleasure for me to photograph weddings in Halstead. It’s an area I know well and The Bull Hotel is a great venue, with good beer too.

Halstead also has magnificent public gardens with a traditional band stand a green and beautiful flower beds and so of course it was a natural location to take Katrina and Mark for some early evening photos. I have to say it did take a little planning though, the gardens are usually locked around 7.00 pm however I rang the park keeper a few days beforehand and he very kindly agreed to keep them open a while longer, so – many thanks Jason.

Image of the week | Wedding at Braxted Park.

Beautiful Wedding photography at Braxted Park in Essex Follow Me on Pinterest

This was an image taken at Braxted Park last summer. It was an Indian wedding and I was the second shooter assisting Essex wedding photographer Andy Griffin.

I never really got to know the bride and groom as I only saw them for the first time on the day itself. However I did get to watch them throughout the day and to witness the true love that they clearly showed for each other, looking totally relaxed and at ease.

It was a gorgeous sunny day and the ceremony was held outside in the Walled Knott Garden. There must have been several hundred guests who all looked amazing and in fact my main task on the day was to record some candid / documentary photographs of them. I’m sure some of these will feature in later blog posts, maybe even as a future image of the week.

Anyway, why did I choose this image to feature as my image of the week? Well to be honest I just love it! The ceremony has just finished the bride and grooms were walking down the aisle interacting with their guests for the first time since becoming husband and wife. They were beaming, clearly so proud and happy to be newly married, they were catching the eyes of family and friends as they pass and  the look on their faces is  just a natural expression of their total joy.

I can’t look at this photograph without feeling the happiness they are exuding, I guess it makes me feel warm inside and makes me feel happy for them (a bit soppy I know but there you go).

I hope you like it too, please feel free to comment or share on Facebook etc

Gaby & Tom’s amazing wedding at St Nicholas Church Fyfield.

Fyfield Wedding Photography_01 Follow Me on Pinterest

I remember when I first went to see Gaby and Tom at their home in Fyfield they were at home with their daughter Erin and the family pets a dog and the cat. I remember there being a real homely feel to the place, they were very natural and down to earth; I liked them both straight away.

Their home is connected to the one next door which is where Gaby’s mother lives and at the back they had this very large beautiful garden which they shared. I was pretty excited when Gaby told me that was where the wedding reception was to be and we went out checked it out in detail. She showed me where the marquee would be and I checked out the beautiful flower beds and all the little hidden nooks and crannies, planning already some of the ideal places for the wedding photographs.

The ceremony itself was to be at St Nicholas’s the local village church. I was very happy when they booked me it had all the hallmarks of being an amazing day.

Tom worked at the local pub in the village and it seemed they were both very well known and had lots of friends. (Just look at the number of bridesmaids Gaby has). This was also reflected in the banter and fun that everyone seemed to enjoy at the wedding.

Gaby also seemed to be very close to her family (and I don’t just mean living next door). At the wedding ceremony she was given away by her brother. One of my favourite images from the day is the black and white one below which was taken at the moment Gaby and Tom saw each other for the first time on their wedding day, the love and admiration they have for each other is just so evident from the look on their faces, but also the look from Gaby’s brother, I think, shows his love and approval for them both.

In my experience all weddings are unique and Gaby and Tom’s was no exception. This is the first wedding I have photographed where the guest released a hundred red balloons outside the church. It’s also the first wedding I have photographed where the most delicious burgers were served from a gourmet burger van in the evening. (Mmmm they were good!) All of the bouquets and button Holes were also handmade so too was the wedding cake, Gaby and Tom worked hard to make their wedding day special and to make it their own.

I did have one moment of mild concern during the course of the evening. Gaby and Tom had left the dog in the house so it couldn’t run off or bother the guests, however when I went into the house to photograph a whole group shot from an upstairs window the dog managed to ‘barge’ past me and get out. Luckily he didn’t run off or jump up and ruin anyone’s dress, in fact everyone was pleased to see him and he was allowed to stay out and enjoy the fun for a while.

Gaby and Tom were amazing it was a great pleasure to photograph their wedding and I wish them a long and wonderful life together.

Nikki & Tim’s, St Michael & All Angels Church Wedding.

Nicola & Tim got married in the summer of 2014 at St Michael & All Angels Church in Copford followed by a wedding reception at the Marks Tey Hotel.

It was interesting (for me anyhow) how I came to meet Nikki and Tim and to photograph their wedding. Some months previously I had been in HSBC bank in Halstead and whilst at the counter I overheard Nicola, at the next counter, telling the cashier about her wedding plans. As we left the bank about the same time I took a moment to introduce myself to Nikki, to say hello and explain that I was a wedding photographer, Nikki had not booked a photographer at that time and seemed very interested, we subsequently arranged a time to get together with her fiancé Tim and her mum, they were very impressed with my portfolio; I’m pleased to say, and immediately booked me for their big day.

We did get together prior to the wedding for a pre wedding photo shoot, which gave us a wonderful opportunity to spend some time together and get to know each other better. It also helped both Nikki and Tim to feel more relaxed and natural in front of the camera.

It was also nice that Nikki bought her wedding dress from ‘Nell’Amore’ a bridal wear shop in Halstead, the owner there; Lauren is amazing and extremely helpful. In fact the photographs of Nikki’s dress and shoes etc. were all taken there a few days before the wedding.

On the day of the wedding itself I met up with Tim, together with his dad and his best man Robert outside the church. I have say that as an experienced wedding photographer it’s always a pleasure to photograph weddings at venues that are a little out of the ordinary and this was certainly was. St Michael & All Angels Church is absolutely beautiful but what is perhaps most remarkable are the Norman wall paintings inside, in fact if you would like to read a bit more about it you can do so here, ‘St Michael & All Angels Church’.

Nikki arrived in style with her bridesmaid in an old restored camper van, her dress was beautiful and as you can see in the photos she looked stunning.

Nikki & Tim and all the guests (and me) had a most enjoyable time at the wedding breakfast / reception. Delicious food, sweets, cakes, drinks, chocolate fountains, speeches, cutting of the cake, first dance and time to relax, chat and play. As the skies grew dark there was yet one more amazing treat in store as the everyone went out on to the roof to release flaming lanterns in to the romantic night sky.

Nikki & Tim are an amazing couple and I wish them a long and happy married life together.
