Image of the week | Wedding at Braxted Park.

Beautiful Wedding photography at Braxted Park in Essex Follow Me on Pinterest

This was an image taken at Braxted Park last summer. It was an Indian wedding and I was the second shooter assisting Essex wedding photographer Andy Griffin.

I never really got to know the bride and groom as I only saw them for the first time on the day itself. However I did get to watch them throughout the day and to witness the true love that they clearly showed for each other, looking totally relaxed and at ease.

It was a gorgeous sunny day and the ceremony was held outside in the Walled Knott Garden. There must have been several hundred guests who all looked amazing and in fact my main task on the day was to record some candid / documentary photographs of them. I’m sure some of these will feature in later blog posts, maybe even as a future image of the week.

Anyway, why did I choose this image to feature as my image of the week? Well to be honest I just love it! The ceremony has just finished the bride and grooms were walking down the aisle interacting with their guests for the first time since becoming husband and wife. They were beaming, clearly so proud and happy to be newly married, they were catching the eyes of family and friends as they pass and  the look on their faces is  just a natural expression of their total joy.

I can’t look at this photograph without feeling the happiness they are exuding, I guess it makes me feel warm inside and makes me feel happy for them (a bit soppy I know but there you go).

I hope you like it too, please feel free to comment or share on Facebook etc

Gaby & Tom’s amazing wedding at St Nicholas Church Fyfield.

I remember when I first went to see Gaby and Tom at their home in Fyfield they were at home with their daughter Erin and the family pets a dog and the cat. I remember there being a real homely feel to the place, they were very natural and down to earth; I liked them both straight away.

Their home is connected to the one next door which is where Gaby’s mother lives and at the back they had this very large beautiful garden which they shared. I was pretty excited when Gaby told me that was where the wedding reception was to be and we went out checked it out in detail. She showed me where the marquee would be and I checked out the beautiful flower beds and all the little hidden nooks and crannies, planning already some of the ideal places for the wedding photographs.

The ceremony itself was to be at St Nicholas’s the local village church. I was very happy when they booked me it had all the hallmarks of being an amazing day.

Tom worked at the local pub in the village and it seemed they were both very well known and had lots of friends. (Just look at the number of bridesmaids Gaby has). This was also reflected in the banter and fun that everyone seemed to enjoy at the wedding.

Gaby also seemed to be very close to her family (and I don’t just mean living next door). At the wedding ceremony she was given away by her brother. One of my favourite images from the day is the black and white one below which was taken at the moment Gaby and Tom saw each other for the first time on their wedding day, the love and admiration they have for each other is just so evident from the look on their faces, but also the look from Gaby’s brother, I think, shows his love and approval for them both.

In my experience all weddings are unique and Gaby and Tom’s was no exception. This is the first wedding I have photographed where the guest released a hundred red balloons outside the church. It’s also the first wedding I have photographed where the most delicious burgers were served from a gourmet burger van in the evening. (Mmmm they were good!) All of the bouquets and button Holes were also handmade so too was the wedding cake, Gaby and Tom worked hard to make their wedding day special and to make it their own.

I did have one moment of mild concern during the course of the evening. Gaby and Tom had left the dog in the house so it couldn’t run off or bother the guests, however when I went into the house to photograph a whole group shot from an upstairs window the dog managed to ‘barge’ past me and get out. Luckily he didn’t run off or jump up and ruin anyone’s dress, in fact everyone was pleased to see him and he was allowed to stay out and enjoy the fun for a while.

Gaby and Tom were amazing it was a great pleasure to photograph their wedding and I wish them a long and wonderful life together.

Nikki & Tim’s, St Michael & All Angels Church Wedding.

Nicola & Tim got married in the summer of 2014 at St Michael & All Angels Church in Copford followed by a wedding reception at the Marks Tey Hotel.

It was interesting (for me anyhow) how I came to meet Nikki and Tim and to photograph their wedding. Some months previously I had been in HSBC bank in Halstead and whilst at the counter I overheard Nicola, at the next counter, telling the cashier about her wedding plans. As we left the bank about the same time I took a moment to introduce myself to Nikki, to say hello and explain that I was a wedding photographer, Nikki had not booked a photographer at that time and seemed very interested, we subsequently arranged a time to get together with her fiancé Tim and her mum, they were very impressed with my portfolio; I’m pleased to say, and immediately booked me for their big day.

We did get together prior to the wedding for a pre wedding photo shoot, which gave us a wonderful opportunity to spend some time together and get to know each other better. It also helped both Nikki and Tim to feel more relaxed and natural in front of the camera.

It was also nice that Nikki bought her wedding dress from ‘Nell’Amore’ a bridal wear shop in Halstead, the owner there; Lauren is amazing and extremely helpful. In fact the photographs of Nikki’s dress and shoes etc. were all taken there a few days before the wedding.

On the day of the wedding itself I met up with Tim, together with his dad and his best man Robert outside the church. I have say that as an experienced wedding photographer it’s always a pleasure to photograph weddings at venues that are a little out of the ordinary and this was certainly was. St Michael & All Angels Church is absolutely beautiful but what is perhaps most remarkable are the Norman wall paintings inside, in fact if you would like to read a bit more about it you can do so here, ‘St Michael & All Angels Church’.

Nikki arrived in style with her bridesmaid in an old restored camper van, her dress was beautiful and as you can see in the photos she looked stunning.

After the ceremony we spent some time taking photographs in the grounds of the church and on the cricket field nearby, before leaving for the Marks Tey Hotel.

Nikki & Tim and all the guests (and me) had a most enjoyable time at the wedding breakfast / reception. Delicious food, sweets, cakes, drinks, chocolate fountains, speeches, cutting of the cake, first dance and time to relax, chat and play. As the skies grew dark there was yet one more amazing treat in store as the everyone went out on to the roof to release flaming lanterns in to the romantic night sky.

Rob – One of my favourite Portraits.

Most of the portraits on my website are portraits photographed in Essex, my home county. These reflect  a nice balance between studio portraits, location portraits and commercial portraits, all of which I enjoy equally.

However as a portrait photographer it’s always nice to look and work further afield than my home or surrounding counties. Which is one of the reasons  shooting this portrait was particularly special. Why? Because it was photographed in New Zealand!

I say one of the reasons because there was also one other very special reason I enjoyed this shoot so much and that’s because Rob is my eldest son and I hadn’t seen him in over fourteen months. He has been away travelling since October 2014, touring most of Asia, Australia and New Zealand, he actually stayed in New Zealand for twelve month hence why we thought it would be good to go and visit him whilst he was there.

Rob is a very keen guitar player and also loves to sing,  whilst being away he has developed his passion even further and has actually started to perform in public at numerous open mike nights and at the venue where he works. It was natural therefore when photographing him to shoot a music portrait.

This is one of a series of shots taken in natural light on the balcony of our apartment in Whitianga on the Coromandel Peninsular.

I really like it, I hope you do too, please feel free to share it on social media or to leave a comment below and tell me what you think.

If you haven’t already done so please check out Location Portrait – why I love this photograph which is a portrait of my wife also photographed in New Zealand.
