Some months ago I took part in a training day looking at various aspects of lighting in portrait photography. As a wedding photographer and portrait photographer, I think it’s essential to take part in regular and ongoing training sessions. It’s a great way to stay on top of your game, to keep up to speed with current trends and to develop and practice new techniques.

This particular day was run by none other than one of the great photography trainers, Martin Grahame-Dunn.

Here are a few shots from the day.

I was out on another one of my walks with Bo, our family dog, the other day when I saw these lovely little baby ducklings in our local nature reserve. I decided they looked so cute that I ought to photograph them and show some pic’s on my blog / personal work page.

So the next day I took my camera with me to get some shots, but, I have to tell you Bo is a very lively Cockapoo who constantly kept running in front of me or over me whilst I was trying to take some photo’s and those little ducklings are so small and yet move so fast that it turned out to be a lot tougher than I thought it would be.

However I think I got some pretty cute shots including some of a very protective mum. I have put a selection of them below.

I go out to walk our family dog (BO) every day and over the past few weeks couldn’t help but notice the abundance of beautiful bright yellow daffodils just about everywhere. I love it when the daffs come out, not only does it means spring is here but it gives a great splash of colour to both my wedding photography and portrait photography.

I have often thought (well actually – not often but occasionally) that I would like to photograph a daffodil against a dark background to really isolate and emphasise the beauty of the flower and the intensity of the colour.

Well I did it a couple of days ago and here are some images from the shoot.

Please let me know what you think.

If you follow my blog on a regular basis then you will know that I have not posted now for a few months. Apologies things have been pretty hectic and I have fallen a bit behind. Catching up now though and it’s my plan to get up to date over the next few weeks and tell you about all the weddings, pre wedding, portrait and other interesting photographic shoots I have been up to.

I’m going to start by telling you about a wonderful couple, Holly and Chris.

Holly and Chris live in a beautiful very quaint very old cottage in rural Hertfordshire. Although it’s reasonably close to the A10 the cottage is in a pretty remote area and is surrounded by ancient woodland and I mean surrounded, there is a stream and lots of trees right at the bottom of their garden. It’s almost magical like something out of a movie.

It was here that I met up with them one wet and windy morning a few months ago to do their pre wedding photo shoot. This was a great opportunity for the three of us to get to know each other before their wedding which was to be at ‘Parklands’ Quendon Hall near Saffron Walden later in the year. Although it had been raining it did stop for a while and we managed to enjoy the wonderful autumn day. The leaves on the trees and on the ground were golden brown and all around was peaceful and calm.

Holly and Chris are a great couple, very open very friendly and both very relaxed and confident in front of the camera. We managed to photograph in a number of different locations and included some on their newly acquired garden bench (which I thought looked like a wheelchair from side on – see what you think) and some on a very picturesque old bridge which crosses the stream in their garden. They both said they had fully enjoyed the shoot and were very much looking forward to seeing the photos. I was looking forward to photographing their wedding later in the year.

A selection of some of my favourite images from the day can be seen below. Please do leave a comment if you can.

If you are planning an Essex or Hertfordshire Wedding future, and would like to discuss your Wedding Photography then please contact me to discuss it in more detail.

For those of you that follow my blog then you may recognse these photo’s from last year. I am actually re posting them as the priginal post has been corrupted. I think they are great photo so – enjoy again.

I was recently approached by two photography students, Becca and Jake, who wished to improve their photographic skills and experience, particularly in relation to portrait photography. Becca, you may remember from a previous blog, she assisted me a couple of months ago with a wedding at Gosfield Hall.

I invited them around to my home studio, along with Becca’s brother, Elliott where we spent a few hours practicing different lighting, posing and shooting techniques. They both thoroughly enjoyed the session (as did I) and both said they had learned a lot from it. I plan to run some further training for them in the new year; meanwhile here are some of the shots that I took on the day.

Here are a few photo’s I took on a skiing holiday a couple of years back. These two were really cool (talk about owners looking like their dogs). They actually used to ski around the piste like this, though unfortunately I never managed to catch them /photograph them doing so.

Feel free to comment and let me know what you think.
